Years ago there was a show on called Drake & Josh. It was about 2 stepbrothers, who were completely different, getting along in a blended family and stumbling into lots of funny trouble along the way. The antagonist in the show was Drake’s little sister, Megan ~ played by Miranda Cosgrove.
Now, Megan was a super smart tween who took great delight in using her smarts to torment her brothers and get them into trouble. Her success was mostly due to her Eddie Haskel charm coupled with her innocent little girl face.
After the series ended, Miranda Cosgrove starred in another comedy, iCarly. This show featured Miranda as Carly ~ the younger teen sister of a funny and crazy brother ~ who produced a webshow with her two best friends. She was bubbly and nice ~ a friend anyone would want to have.

I had been watching iCarly with my kids for a while when a rerun of Drake & Josh came on one day. When I saw Miranda as Megan, I couldn’t believe it was her.
Why?
Because cute, bubbly Carly turned into bratty trouble-making Megan and it changed her looks. Her acting personality made her unattractive. Even though I knew it was the same actress, she was almost unrecognizable to me.
Proof that personality affects how we see a person. That beauty is in the attitude.
…and that Miranda is a decent actress…
Have you met anyone who you didn’t think was good looking until you got to know them? Have you known a classically attractive person who got 3 shades of ugly after the first conversation?
I think that’s why I wouldn’t ever want to, like, meet Johnnie Depp in person, because if he opened his mouth and his ugly fell out, I’d be SO disillusioned.
..and that would sincerely be a horrible thing. I couldn’t agree more
When hubby & I watch DVDs, he likes to watch the Special Features. I don’t. Because I want to stay in the illusion, I want to keep the characters in my mind the same way they are in the story. I don’t want to know “the truth” (whatever that is). I like the story, and the escape. Why spoil it?
Agreed
I won’t watch most interviews with celebrities for the same reason. I watched an interview with Madonna once and it changed my perception of her and, well ~ you can’t un-ring a bell.
I’ve never heard this expression. “you can’t un-ring a bell”. Perfect!
Thanks
Ladies, I did get the chance to meet Hugh Jackman in person when he played his one-man show in San Francisco. And let me tell you, he is just as WONDERFUL in person as he is on screen. The security guards that worked the show even said he was the best actor to work with. And he was charming and sincere with everyone who stood in line for autographs before and after the show.
That’s great to hear about Hugh because I am a fan of his. You’re so lucky!
I’m actually fascinated by the celebrity interviews that are out there. I want to know what they’re really like, even though many interview questions are so corny or ask leading questions for the sake of promoting something. But I think you can tell a lot about a person from how they handle those interviews. It may turn me off from their future work, but I guess it’s a risk I’m willing to take. If they are that big of a jerk, maybe I shouldn’t be patronizing their films/music/books, etc. anyway.
That’s true. I see your point.
The only exception to my interview rule is if they appear on Ellen because nobody can come off looking like a jerk in the same room as Ellen. It’s just not possible
